That is my coach right there, WIN AT ALL COSTS and by god I respect the hell outta that. Dont you? I will say that I did not know all of that, you are really into all recruiting aspects of the college game more than I am. But I still dont agree that UM will get the players they want 90-95% of the time over UF. I may be wrong, thats just my personal opinion though. I guess I took the comment as you saying that UF just gets all UM's cast offs and we both know thats not true. But just to let ya know, no the "UFag" and "GAYtors" comments do not bother me at all, I was just wondering if you had an infatuation with it or something. But yeah thanks for bringing some facts to the board, god knows I cant handle facts nor do I ever post em hahahaha.

100% correct. Shannon's got a damn classy group of kids right now--he's ran off a lot of the guys who have been causing trouble on the team, and you can tell that the kids who are there now really want to play and win together. I guarantee you won't see the legal/drug related problems that have went on at UF in the past couple of years. Meyer said he recruits the "top 1% of the top 1%", and then last year 8 different kids got arrested in that program for either violence or drugs. That's not mentioning Jamar Hornsby--the kid that used his dead roomate's also deceased g/f's gas cards to get free gas. That's the "top 1%" alright.

The last Miami kid to get in trouble was Zach Kane, a linebacker recruit out of Toms River, NJ. The Canes beat out Rutgers for his services, and a lot of Rutgers people in the area were very upset that he decided to go to UM. He caught charges for breaking a beer bottle over a kid's head at a graduation party <u>that he wasn't even at</u>. It got pinned on him b/c of the animosity in the community over him heading out of town. What did Shannon do? He denied Kane entry onto the team until his legal troubles were done. The charges were not dropped until after the last day Kane could enroll, so Kane is at Milford Prep and will be at Miami next year. Lots of other programs would have let him play w/those charges--but Shannon doesn't roll that way. Integrity first. If you've got legal problems, you're not on this team--you take care of it, then we'll see about you getting out there--but you don't bring that stuff into his program.

That's something you've got to respect the hell out of.

Not if said coach has to lie to and deceive kids to get them to come to school there, and tries to trash other coaches/programs instead of selling the merits of his own. Rather despicable if you ask me.

On the field--I respect a coach that lays it all out on the line, that will let it all hang out within the rules of the game. Off the field--you represent your program and you had better keep your reputation and that of your program's intact--you don't do that by doing things like what Meyer did to Hunter & Stonum--not to mention him lying to Brian Waggener, a QB out of California, that Tim Tebow was recruited to play linebacker, and that he felt Waggener was his QB of the future--and Waggener bought it. He transferred out and is at another school now, but he's lost time in other programs that he could have been using to play and possibly make it to the NFL--all because Meyer lied to him to get him to sign that letter of intent.

If you followed the recruiting part of this game like I do and others have, maybe you'd understand how big of a scumbag Meyer really is. He's a good coach, has a great offensive system--but he's a despicable human being when it comes to dealing with these kids and selling them a load of crap that some of them are unfortunately willing to buy.

Sooner or later it will bite him in the arse.

That's what Meyer needs to say--not this other crap that he's been caught saying to kids just to get them on campus like telling every kid that they'll be the next Percy Harvin, in the hopes of flattering them into coming to UF. That's why he's scum.

Shannon sells the Miami program, the school, the history, the comaraderie with the tons of NFL players that are Canes, and the likelihood of competing for titles while at Miami and going to the NFL once their days at Coral Gables are over. He doesn't go off and tell some kids that they'll be the next Devin Hester or that they'll get immediate PT--doesn't stoop to downing other programs either. He sells what he's got, tells the kid that they can come in and work hard and earn their spot, and it's up to the kid to make the right decision.

Cases in point--Ramon Buchanan, who is now a backup S/LB for Miami as a freshman this year, was all Gator in recruiting, or so most thought. Miami was also recruiting Lerentee McCray at the same position, and McCray committed to Miami. Shannon took his commitment and wanted McCray to concentrate on graduating early & getting his test scores so he could enroll in January. McCray didn't want to do the work, and started taking other visits--one of them was to UF. As soon as he refused to do what the coach asked--Shannon took away his offer. Meyer told McCray he could start his year, be right next to Brandon Spikes. Said that he didn't care if he wasn't ready to graduate early, that he'd still be starting anyways. McCray publicly decommitted from Miami and committed to UF (even though Shannon had yanked his offer a month and a half earlier). Buchanan was told by Meyer that he was their #1 needed player on the board, that he could start next to Spikes next year. Turns out, Buchanan read in one of the McCray updates that Meyer told McCray all this stuff, and realized that someone was getting sold a bill of goods that Meyer couldn't deliver. So--Buchanan got his grades up, got qualified, and is now at Miami trying to earn his spot on the field. He didn't buy into the lies.

Simply put--Shannon asked a kid to work hard and earn his spot--Meyer said he'd give him said spot. McCray believed Meyer--and now he's on the bench behind Spikes--not playing much at all. Buchanan bypassed Meyer's idle promises and is working hard to get better and earn his spot. I think Buchanan got the better deal out of that...and all because Shannon was honest with him and he saw that Meyer was lying thru his teeth.

So you dont think its right to sale a kid on playing time? I used to play NCAA football alot, do my franchises and after the season when you go to do your recruiting that is one of the points you push to the kid, playing time. Now I know its just a video game and Im not trying to say I live by that so dont take it the wrong way. Im just saying that promising a kid playing time is a good way to get the kid to come to your school. Maybe Meyer meant every word he told McCray and thought at that time he would be starting but once he got there and seen that he wasn't performing up to level, he changed his mind. Cant a guy change his mind?

Yes--a guy can change his mind based off performance--but that's not what Meyer says to kids...he doesn't say, come in, earn your spot, if you do well enough, you get playing time. He says come in, your spot's waiting for you, no one in front of you, you're starting LB as soon as you walk on campus...then under his breath to himself "pending whether you can play or not of course". It's a half-truth the dude's telling kids at the very least.

It's better the way Shannon does it--tells kids to come in and work hard and if you earn the spot, you'll play, if you don't, then you'll be contributing by competing and making yourself and your teammates better which helps us all win.

Selling the possiblity of playing time versus lying to a kid and saying they've got a starting spot as soon as they step on campus and then not delivering on that are two completely different things.

but still you canes fans are on here daily boasting, on a UT thread, about all the championships that were won by the most unclassy teams ever to grace the college football field...So now let me get this straight, you all are down non-classy programs????

Most if not all of those Championships were won by the all time most unclassy teams. I did like the attitude of some those Canes teams tho like back in the Irvin days. Those guys told you they were gon whip your ass then did it. I have much respect for that. Kinda like Joey Porter talking about the Patriots not being near as good with Cassell as they are with Brady and everybody blowing it way outta text. No [censored], that should be obvious to anyone with any knowledge of football. Anybody with half a brain knows they aren't the same Pats or gon be near as deadly on offense without Brady. But hey, what did Porter do? He went and backed up what he said with 3 sacks.
